Making a Difference!

starfishAfter a massive storm thousands of starfish were stranded on a beach and a little girl, seeing them stranded, began to throw them back into the water one by one. As she did so an old man walked by.
"Little girl, little girl, can't you see there are thousands of starfish stranded. You'll never make a difference," he said.
"I can for this one," she replied, throwing another starfish back into the water.

This is the philosophy Ku-ring-gai Rotary. The challenges locally and globally are huge, but by rolling up our sleeves and using the Rotary network which ensures every dollar goes where it's supposed to we can make a whole host of small differences and those small differences add up. For example, we assisted in the first East Timor Rotary Youth Leadership Program. One of our members helped oversee the first course in Dili. We also sent two young Australian volunteers to Uganda where, with the support of the local Rotary Club of M'kono they helped the local people build a much needed school.

"We can for this one."

Jumbo History - now the Joey Joy Flight

The Joey Joy (previously Jumbo) Flight. Each year the Rotary Club of Turramurra organises a flight in a Qantas Jet for children who are very ill, who may be physically or intellectually disabled, sometimes are in wheelchairs or may come from backgrounds where holidays are not possible. These children would not normally be able to travel in an aircraft.

About Joey Joy Flight (previously Jumbo Flight)

Children with Disabilities and Underprivileged Children

Joey_Joy_Flight.jpg

This annual event involves a Qantas jet aircraft taking children and their carers on a 90 minute joy-flight over the Sydney-Newcastle-Wollongong area.
The children are physically or intellectually disadvantaged, suffering life threatening illnesses, come from homeless backgrounds or from circumstances where holidays are not possible.

The Rotary Club of Turramurra organizes the children, Qantas provides the aircraft, their staff (including pilots and crew) volunteer their time, and Qantas Pathfinders attend to the ticketing and ground support. Airport charges are waived by Sydney Airport Corporation Ltd and a fuel supplier generously donates the fuel.

The flight is usually held on a Saturday in November, departing from the Sydney Domestic Terminal. 2020 and 2021 flights were not held due to Covid-19.

Experience the joy of giving children a once in a lifetime opportunity.
